Elementary Social Studies

Powerful and Authentic Social Studies (PASS) is essential for the development of engaged and active citizens - not future citizens - current ones. Honoring the contributions that kids bring to our society and recognizing their role as integral to our communities means that we look to them as valued people who matter to our present and future. 

What makes social studies powerful and authentic?
The National Council for the Social Studies outlines that GREAT social studies teaching is MAVIC:

Meaningful
Active
Values-Based (as in core democratic values)
Integrative
Challenging
